The original incidental greenspace inspired a pair of cousins that were painted around the same time. Often works hung on the paintwall together become a diptych or triptych. This time i wanted to play with darks and the textural detail of a wildly overgrown natural space.

While the paintings developed on the paint wall together, they remain singletons. Cousins instead of siblings.

I have always been drawn to colour and colour relationships. In much of my work I try to tease out a little reaction between contrasts. In this little piece i was attracted to the water and how the addition of a yellow to the the light blue violet of the water flattened out the surface to infer a breathless late summer afternoon.

The sweet suite project continues as a playful and colourful response to the landscape I inhabit. My paintings are suggestions of place and aim to capture a moment in time. They might begin with a reference to a physical location but I allow the marks I make to determine where the composition will end up.

Working small can be a fun proposition. Compositions tend to be sketchy and suggestive… but in a good way. They are often little chall;enges I set for myself to recalibrate after working in much larger sizes.

This little composition reminds me of a misadventure taken by a friend with the help of google maps. Not all roads lead to Rome, or Home and if they cross a farmers field I’d opt for the long way around.

Our Flatland home on the Canadian Prairies inspires all kinds of imaginings down roads less travelled. The journeys I take are inspired by the natural world around me. I’m a fair weather girl with an Australian background and a head full of naratives about spiders and snakes. After 30 years in Canada my respect for “Wild Life” remains intact. Though you wont find me physically negotiating tall grasses in bare feet I will happily take you on a visual journey to wherever your heart desires.
